Originality Works For Me.

There was something someone said to me once, he said " everything wey dey exist, na one person start am" for those who can't read Nigerian pidgin English that simply translates to " everything existing was started by one person ".

This made me wonder, what if that person after having the thoughts of being a pioneer, decided not to pursue it? How much time did it take before the thoughts and ideas were ready to be revealed to the world? Because if there's anything I've learnt about the human nature is that the fear of the unknown makes humans defensive and possibly aggressive.

There is a set precedent in human sociocultural characteristics, where everyone is expected to conform to what is considered to be the norm of the society depending on the prevailing culture. Mostly any slight deviation from the norm is met by swift criticism by the majority in the society.

Leaving one to answer the questions, " what am I supposed to be? I decided to offer an answer to that question, because it took me a while of battling with low self esteem issues and worries about being accepted in society and within my family before I decided to be original. What this meant was I had to accept myself first, and if it was okay by me then it should be okay by everyone else, so I didn't have to worry about living my life to please others.

Originality works for me, and because I set the standard to meet, I can better evaluate my successes and learn from my failures, also discovering my strengths and my weaknesses. So be yourself, be original and don't ever try to be anything other than the you, you can come to love and accept.
