One of my Dad's favorite sayings is that "light defeats any and all form of darkness."

Now bringing the light in Africa to defeat the staggering weight of unstable power supply in Africa is Senegalese-American R&B and hiphop singer, songwriter and record producer,

Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Bongo Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam

professionally known as Akon. (Lol, I didn't know he has so many names.)

Akon is said to be working on bringing solar power to about 600 million Africans through his charity foundation called Akon Lighting Africa.

According to the organisation, Africa receives about 320 days of sunshine every year and that's a lot of untapped potential energy.

Akon takes a very personal and bold step towards providing for his continent and its people, a step which is nothing less that a very commendable one.
